Rafael Delwart

Education: Undergraduate Degree in Robotics Engineering from UCSC with a minor in Electrical Engineering.

Rafael is a Robotics Engineering graduate from the University of California, Santa Cruz. His work focuses on automation, mechatronics, and experimental hardware for scientific research.

Rafael will be joining the Blue Marble Space Young Scientist Program at NASA Ames, where he will work with Dr. Milena Popović and Dr. Alfonso Davila on a research device for wet-dry cycling experiments and origins-of-life studies. His previous work includes leading the development of an automated wet-dry cycling platform for RNA synthesis research with Professor David Deamer.

He is especially interested in building practical robotic and automated systems that support scientific discovery. Rafael speaks French and English, and outside of engineering, he enjoys traveling, rock climbing, skiing, and mountain biking.
