She is a bioengineer and researcher interested in photosynthetic organisms and their engineering applications, both on Earth and beyond. During her MS at Stanford University, she worked for the Rhee and Burlacot Labs studying the ways that carbon-concentrating mechanisms influence microbial fitness in cyanobacteria. At Blue Marble Space, she will be contributing to research on the impact of spaceflight on microalgae and cyanobacteria. Julia is also passionate about science education. She has introduced students of all ages to bioengineering as a Stanford Teaching Assistant, a Pre-College Instructor, and a private tutor. Outside of the lab, Julia explores biology by hiking and swimming. She also loves reading, writing, and playing speculative fiction.
