Yareli S. Arenas is an English Literature and Criticism student interested in how people, communities, and society preserve knowledge and adapt to change. Through Project Janus, she has been exploring questions around epistemic stewardship, civilization resilience, and the role of information in different scenarios. She is mainly interested in how knowledge can be preserved and passed forward while still leaving room for future communities to reinterpret and challenge what they inherit. Her interest in knowledge preservation stems from storytelling and the histories that can be forgotten or overlooked. She has been particularly inspired by the work of Indigenous authors, in particular the work of Too-qua-stee (DeWitt Clinton Duncan), a Cherokee writer and educator whose work reflects a culture and history that might have otherwise been lost to memory. This has shaped her curiosity about what societies choose to remember, what they risk losing, and how storytelling can help carry knowledge across generations. As she continues finding her voice in science communication and futures thinking, Yareli hopes to explore these questions creatively and learn from others along the way.
